Without any immigration, Switzerland would shrink. Compared to the turn of the century, the population without migration would now be 7.02 million—a decline of 2%. This slight decline is due to the fact that more Swiss citizens are emigrating than returning from abroad, and more Swiss citizens are now dying than being born.
