If all planned expansions of social welfare schemes, from the 13th AHV pension to the Family Leave Initiative, were financed through wage contributions, these would have to increase by 2.6 percentage points. For a median income, this would correspond to an additional deduction of CHF 2,260 per year. And unlike tax increases, this additional burden would not necessarily require a popular vote with a double majority of the people and the cantons. Our new analysis outlines what can be done.
