Switzerland and South Korea have had a free trade agreement since 2006. Since then, exports to the Asian country have almost tripled to 3.6 billion Swiss francs. A similar dynamic is now hoped for from the recently concluded agreement with the Mercosur countries of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

The collapse of Credit Suisse therefore highlights the ongoing consolidation process in Switzerland’s financial center.

While today the agricultural sector rightly denounces the excessive bureaucracy, the high level of subsidies is worth mentioning in comparison. The allocation of subsidies and legal requirements often go hand in hand. A reduction in transfers to agriculture would also reduce bureaucracy.
