The state wishes to prevent chronic diseases by tackling the excessive consumption of products such as tobacco, alcohol, and sugar. Meanwhile, the Confederation supports the production and sale of these very products with subsidies amounting to millions of francs. It supports the promotion of wine (9 million), the production of Swiss tobacco (13 million), and the production of sugar (36.5 million). In total, this amounts to 60 million Swiss francs.
