The share of employees in Swiss industry was this high at its peak in 1964. Currently, it is only 20%. This is due to the fact that the industry has become much more productive, and production has been partially outsourced to Asia and Eastern Europe. Moreover, in a prosperous society, demand for services grows more strongly than for industrial goods.
