Contrary to the global trend toward protectionism, Switzerland unilaterally abolished its industrial tariffs at the beginning of 2024 : a move that has since sparked intense debate. This opening benefits Swiss consumers: prices of industrial goods (such as clothing) have fallen by 1.15 percent nationwide. This corresponds to annual savings of around 180 francs per household.
