More than 180,000 people (full-time equivalents) currently work in public administration, representing around 4% of the workforce. Including other public-sector employees, such as teachers, this share rises to 10%. When also considering jobs in the wider public sector (funded or managed by the state), the total comes to nearly one million people, or 23%.
